If you’re not going to talk about the fact that fifty people with disabilities were just stabbed by a man who wants the disabled to ‘disappear’ then you are not allowed to call yourself a disability advocate.

I don’t care how many ramps you want to put in. I don’t care how many words you want us to stop saying. I don’t care how many people with disabilities you know. If you’re not going to talk about the fact that people are killing us every single day, if you’re not going to give our deaths the same amount of attention that you do for other minority groups, you are not a disability advocate and you never were.

Unless you are disabled. This is aimed at able people.

Yes if you are disabled and can’t talk about it because it’s too emotional, that is fine. This is aimed at abled people who know about the incident and are ignoring it.

Specifically, this is aimed at every single abled person who comes up to me on a daily basis and claims that they’re a disability advocate or brags on Facebook about how they’re a disability advocate but adamantly refuses to talk about these things and other instances of violence. I could start naming names but it might get a little mean. So you get the blanket post.

lost-in-misunderstood-thoughts said: This post has enough notes that I feel the need to say something: fifty people were not stabbed! Twenty six were. Yes, it is important that it be known what happened, and that it was an ablest hate crime, but misinformation does not help anyone.

-

At least twenty-six people were injured from the stab wounds. At least nineteen people were killed from the stab wounds.

26 + 19 = 45.

Since all of the sources say “at least”, I rounded up.

Every disabled person will remember who ignores this and who doesn’t.

Every disabled person in your life will remember which group you belong to.

I tweeted about this but for ppl on tumblr, if you aren’t aware, a man in Japan recently stabbed nearly 50 disabled people, killing 19 of them, at a center specifically for people with disabilities. He had been planning to do this for a while and had threatened before that he would kill disabled people. He truly believes disabled people do not deserve to live.

If you’re disabled, the likelihood of being abused and/or killed is dramatically higher than if you are an abled person. Discrimination is not the only problem disabled people face. We experience violence at drastically higher rates than abled people. Do not dismiss this truth. Do not dismiss this blatant and violent hate crime against disabled people in Japan.
