The moment Fiyero walks in the door for the first time, his dark skin is noted. Later, it’s specifically described as ochre, which still leaves wiggle room as ‘ochre’ is a shade with variations, but basically red or golden brown. It gets spelled out again when Avaric is racist and mocks Fiyero’s facial tattoos and compares his skin color to shit. Fiyero is not white; how much more clearly can it be spelled out?

One of the things that draw Elphaba and Fiyero together is that they both stand out constantly and are subject to prejudice because of the color of their skin. So why water down his character and their love story with whitewashing? The Broadway version, while it has some plusses, messed up with that. I really hope people advocate for a MoC to play the role of Fiyero in the movie version because that’s as it should be. It’s not like we’re lacking for talented non-white actors who can sing. Let’s make this happen, Wicked filmmakers.
